"The Outsider" animated short done in collaboration with my friend, Remi.
The animation follows Zeek, an introverted and shy sparklefurby. Due to him being more colorful than the rest along with being dressed alternatively, he is ostracized and viewed as a "freak" by normies (hence the t-shirt). Spoiler alert, Zeek finds other "freaks" just like him.
Here's Zeek's reference sheet. This contains his design's key features such as having lava lamp ears, tail, and paws, plus his rainbow raccoon tail extensions. His outfit consists on a graphic t-shirt, pink shorts, mismatched socks, cyan shoes, kandi bracelets, and all put together with a green and black studded belt and a collar containing his first initial.
Zeek has dark gray, blue-tinted fur as his main color but I did provide a reference of his belly color being neon green.
This is Zeek's base that was drawn on Ibispaintx. Each part of his body were saved as individual transparent images so that each part of his body can be animated independently. I rigged all these parts together, kinda like a stringed puppet!
Here's a walk cycle test I made with these assets before starting the production of the short:
The animation shouldn't just be with Zeek. There had to be other characters created like Chester for example. Chester is a hyena who came to help Zeek. This is his concept image made in my regular style, which was also used as a point of reference.
Like with Zeek, Chester also got a similar rigged model made of him. Unfortunately no walk cycle was made due to time constraints.
Remi provided concepts for two of the characters who were featured in the video. Here's one of his sketches for Will the bat.
